Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (LLC) is engaged in cross-cultural research, teaching, and service within diverse local and global connections. It is a large department in the College of Arts and Sciences with 43 full-time faculty members, including 7 tenure-line and 30 full-time professional-track faculty. Additional instruction is provided by 6 part-time lecturers and varying numbers of teaching assistants and tutors.

Six languages are taught in LLC: American Sign Language (ASL), Arabic, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. The Department has approximately 150 first- and second-majors pursuing a BA degree in Spanish or a BA in Languages, Literature, and Cultures with a concentration in French and Francophone Studies, German Studies, K-12 Teaching Licensures (French, Spanish) or Global Languages and Communities.

In addition, the Department actively participates in the Language Exchange consortium within the UNC distance education system as well as in interdisciplinary programs throughout the College of Arts and Sciences, particularly the International and Global Studies Program (IGS) and the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program. Online courses, including four-semester language sequences (French, German, Spanish) and an Online German Minor program are available to distance learning students across the globe.
Position Summary
Lecturer in French

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at UNC Greensboro is seeking a dynamic full-time lecturer in French (M.A. required, Ph.D. welcomed) for a one-year position; possibly renewable.

  • Established credentials and expertise in teaching French at all levels of a student-centered language, literature, and culture program required.
  • Ability to teach phonetics, translation, and/or Francophone literatures and cultures from the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, and/or Quebec welcomed.
  • The ability to teach asynchronous online courses is strongly desired. In addition, willingness to teach special topics LLC courses in English.
  • Willingness to promote French and Francophone Studies at UNCG through active participation/leadership in extra and co-curricular initiatives is a must.
  • Evidence of mentoring capabilities is desired.
  • Native or near-native proficiency is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in French language and literature or related field.
  • Native or near-native language skills in speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing in both French and English.
  • All qualifying degrees or credit hours must be completed by August 1, 2024.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A PhD in French language and culture or French Studies is highly desirable.
