Position Summary

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student's field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

The Position:
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR) is a fast paced, dynamic, student centered environment which assists and serves the entire University Community. The Graduate Assistant for the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities reports directly to the Assistant Director for the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The Graduate Assistant supports services of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities which include assisting students to resolve problems and concerns by working with them individually and in groups, educating students about alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct and the Academic Integrity Policy, providing outreach to the campus community, as well as serving as a resource for students, faculty, staff, and others who seek assistance from the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.

The philosophy of OSRR is that graduate students deserve challenge, support, supervision, resources, professional development opportunities and role modeling. OSRR professionals believe that graduate students should enjoy their work and the environment, feel an active part of the office, be highly efficient and effective, and gain a well-rounded professional experience in the field of student affairs.

Key Responsibilities:
Advocacy

* Meet individually with students, actively listen to their issues, and assist them as appropriate
* Respond appropriately to confidential matters and refer as needed
* Assist with answering questions from faculty, staff, families, students and the community
Student Conduct/Academic Integrity Process
* Administer student conduct conferences (SCC) with students where students are advised of their rights, given information about the case, and informed of the conduct process and their options in regard to the student conduct process
* Work closely in collaboration with Housing and Residence Life, Student Government Attorney General's Office, University Police, and others who may become involved with the conduct or academic integrity process UNC Greensboro HR Suite
* Update student conduct records using Maxient database including imposing and tracking educational sanctions
* Directly supervise Case Coordinators and indirectly supervise Student Advisors on the Student Conduct Team including recruitment, selection, training, development, and evaluation Departmental Publications
* Assist in the development and revision of publications. (i.e. Student Handbook, Conduct Team Manual, etc.)
* Review and edit forms and webpage information
Community Enhancement Initiatives
* Assist the professional staff in providing and scheduling professional development/in service opportunities for faculty and staff
* Plan, develop, and coordinate Geek Week
* Develop and implement in-service training sessions for student conduct participants
General Office Responsibilities
* Fill in as the office receptionist in the absence of the student office assistants
* Respond to inquiries about the department and its processes to persons either in person or by phone or email
* Work on special projects as assigned by the professional staff as needed
* Participate in University-wide committees associated with the office
* Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the processes and programs
* Other duties as assigned

Work Hours, Environment: 20 hours per week (typically M-F during normal business hours but some nights/weekends may be required) in a fast paced, dynamic, student centered environment, which assists and serves the entire University Community

Additional Terms of Employment: The Graduate Assistant will have an assigned appointment for the period of August through May; potential opportunity for summer employment
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:
* Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
* Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
* Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
* Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
Additional Minimum Qualifications
* The candidate must demonstrate some knowledge about student conduct
* The ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, develop new initiatives, and interact effectively in an advisory capacity with diverse students is required
* Ability to work with diverse student communities
* Ability to work in a team environment and independently
* Strong organizational and programming skills
* Strong communication and written skills
