Greensboro is a thriving city of approximately 280,000 people. In addition to UNCG, the city is home to a number of colleges and universities including North Carolina A&T State University and Bennett, Greensboro, and Guilford Colleges. Greensboro was the birthplace of student sit-ins to desegregate lunch counters, which began at the Woolworth store downtown and later spread to other locations around the nation. The city is located in an area of great natural beauty, cultural arts, and mild temperatures. North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains are an easy two-hour drive and the beaches of North and South Carolina are within a three-hour drive.
