Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Orthodontics discipline focuses on the treatment of irregularities of the teeth, jaws, and bite relationship in children and adults. |
Position Summary | The Patient Care Coordinator provides service to patients who are referred to the Orthodontic Dental Faculty Practice clinic at UNC Adams School of Dentistry for evaluation and treatment. These clinics cover a wide range of patients from orthodontic to surgical treatments. This position is directly responsible for establishing patient contact and scheduling appointments, performing financial contracts, collecting payments, coordinating patient flow/procedures, and maintaining the patient database (chart, x-rays, models, photographs, correspondence letters, etc.) |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | The selected candidate should be outgoing, have a strong work ethic, be open to learning new skills, and function well in a team oriented environment. The selected candidate must have the ability to interface and take direction from a wide range of faculty members. The selected candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to convey information across a variety of cultural, societal, and ethnic backgrounds. The selected candidate should be proficient in basic computer skills such as word processing and be able to learn electronic patient management software. The selected candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a team oriented environment. The selected candidate must also be comfortable with the use of new and emerging technology in their day to day work environment. This position uses numerous University and commercial software in day-to- day tasks. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Front desk experience in dental or medical setting is preferred. The candidate should also understand and embrace the wide variety of patients seen in the clinic. |
