Position Summary
Our lab focuses on understanding the basis for lung disease and performs a mix of basic science, bioengineering, and clinical research. We are seeking a Research Technician to join our dynamic team focusing on the advancement of respiratory health through cutting-edge studies on high-speed airflow (cough) clearance of mucus and how this is affected by lung diseases including cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis, and asthma. The successful candidate will be instrumental in conducting in vitro studies utilizing primary human airway epithelial cultures. Core responsibilities include the culturing of human airway cells, employing a variety of microscopy techniques, and contributing to the development of innovative devices designed to enhance cough clearance mechanisms. Other scientific techniques utilized in this position include, but are not limited to, in vitro biophysical and biochemical techniques, molecular biology, 3D printing, and other biomedical engineering approaches. A partial component of this position is general laboratory management including participation in daily operations including ordering supplies, general record keeping, and compliance with health and safety procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Basic understanding of cell biology and a desire to learn techniques such as cell culturing and biophysical analysis of biopolymers. Team player with good verbal and written skills necessary to communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. Good working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and presentation software packages.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field. Some prior experience in experimental design and basic laboratory techniques is preferred but not required. Experience with cell culture techniques and microscopy is a plus. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a passion for research and the capability to thrive in a collaborative scientific environment.
