Position Summary
The UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery (https://www.med.unc.edu/itr/) has two overarching goals. The first goal is to increase understanding of how adverse posttraumatic neuropsychiatric sequelae (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder, pain, depression, and other somatic symptoms) develop after traumatic stress exposure (e.g., motor vehicle collision, military deployment, sexual assault). The second goal is to use this knowledge to develop and test interventions that prevent these outcomes. Our primary strategy to achieve these goals is to recruit and retain outstanding, talented, self-motivated staff, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty who are passionate about improving the lives of individuals who have experienced trauma. The Institute for Trauma Recovery invites applications for a managing director to help advance this mission.

The Managing Director will, under the direction of the Institute Director, oversee all aspects of institute operations and strategic initiatives. This will include budget planning and management, grant planning and submissions, research support, including project management and compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements, partnership development and stakeholder engagement. This position will lead the institute's administrative core, including supervision and management of staff and graduate and undergraduate students. This individual may also help lead a broad range of activities related to planning, organizing, executing, managing, and monitoring the implementation of new and existing initiatives including observational studies and clinical trials.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or professional-level background in sponsored research administration, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with planning, organizing, executing, managing, and/or monitoring the implementation of new and existing research initiatives. Experience with grant planning and submissions, budget planning and management, development of study procedures, adverse event reporting. Outstanding oral and written communication skills and analytic/problem-solving skills. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team is required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Substantial experience running and coordinating large multi-site, emergency department based studies (preferably clinical trials), and a clinical background as a social worker, nurse, or other health-related professional, OR an individual with a PhD and substantial research experience. Previous experience in research institute management, preferably in an academic or institutional setting.
