Position Summary
The purpose of the UNC human pluripotent Stem Cell (HPSC) Core is to provide UNC investigators and outside collaborators a platform to successfully conduct basic and translational research using human embryonic and pluripotent stem cell. The HPSC Core offers a wide range of services including generation of induced pluripotent stem cells, disease modeling and genome editing. The HPSC Core is actively participating to increase the awareness of the enormous potential of stem cell research witting the NC research community, to develop and support a highly collaborative environment for research and education and to attract pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies performing related research and development.

The objective of this position is to serve as a Research Associate under the direction of Dr. Beltran, the HPSC Core director. The Facility provides UNC investigators as well as outside collaborators a platform to successfully conduct basic as well as translational research using stem cells (including human embryonic stem cells (hESC) and human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC). The core facility offers iPSCs generation, gene editing, stem cell differentiation into specialized cell types including neurons, and organoids cultures. The facility is actively participating to increase the awareness of the enormous potential of stem cell research within the NC research community, to develop and support a highly collaborative environment for research and education, and to attract pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies performing related research and development.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The Research Associate must be: 1) extremely organized and detail-oriented person, 2) capable of working on multiple projects during a certain time-frame, 3) experience with mammalian cell culture, and 4) follow research protocols. Also, execute downstream molecular and biochemical experiments (RT-qPCR, western blot etc.). Other responsibilities include keeping accurate and detailed notes on each experiment performed, maintaining the lab equipment and ordering lab supplies.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Familiarity with Excel and Power point is required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The ideal candidate must have solid background in molecular biology techniques.
