Position Summary
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The Kimmel School of Construction Management (KSCM), located within the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Western Carolina University (WCU), invites applications for a Fixed Term Assistant Professor of Practice of Civil Engineering beginning August 2024.

This is a 9-month, fixed term position for the new civil engineering concentration under the existing Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) degree program.

The Kimmel School currently houses both an on-campus undergraduate degree program (BSCM) and an online non-thesis based graduate degree program (MCM) in Construction Management. Comprised of predominantly faculty with civil engineering degrees, the KSCM places a strong emphasis on applied, practice-based active learning supported by the faculty's professional experience. The BSCM program is accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC) of ABET and the BSE program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses across a broad range of civil engineering and construction management topics and should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following civil engineering disciplines: structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulics and hydrology engineering, environmental engineering, and/or construction engineering. Candidates will be expected to play a collaborative role in initiatives for partnerships with K-12 schools, community colleges, government agencies, and industry. This position is also expected to provide a considerable level of service to the School, College, and University including student advising and mentoring, planning and leading outreach activities, organizing and mentoring student clubs and organizations, and other similar student and industry focused activities. Additionally, candidates may have opportunities to teach summer courses and lead other efforts in the summer months for additional compensation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Minimum Qualifications
Possess an earned Masters degree or equivalent in civil engineering, construction engineering, or architectural engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have one or more of the following:

1. Earned PhD or equivalent in civil, construction, or architectural engineering.
2. Professional engineering licensure and registration.
3. University-level teaching experience.
4. 3-years or more of professional civil engineering design and/or construction related experience.
