Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The NCCU School of Education offers undergraduate, graduate, licensure and professional development programs to train students to become teachers, principals, counselors, as well as serve as mentors to community schools. The School offers traditional, classroom-based instruction as well online instruction. Faculty and staff bring diverse knowledge and experience, provide students with a unique learning experience; teach in small classroom size for easier access to each other and their instructors, and employ the latest technology.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Supplemental Instruction Coordinator I plans and facilitates instruction and remediation for students taking the Teacher Education Program Entry, Praxis Core Reading, Writing and Math. The SIC I will support students in Gateway 1. The SIC I will teach an in-person and/or hybrid course (EDU 2010) each semester that supplements teacher education while maintaining Title III records and logs, individual plans for students and other documents and reports pertaining to instruction, Title III, and the unit.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A successful candidate should have knowledge and experience with preparation requirements for teacher education candidates in North Carolina. The candidate must be able to lead academic remediation that enhance student's engagement, success and overall development in the Teacher Education program. The SIC will ensure the quality and integrity of Supplemental Instruction programs through assessment and cooperation with all education pathways leading to licensure and all accrediting bodies. The SIC will assist the School of Education in the achievement of satisfactory student Praxis and Pearson test scores goals by remaining abreast of current literature, research, issues, trends and innovations in higher education. The SIC must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders. The SIC will carry out other assignments and duties as assigned by the Dean and the Title III Director and as appropriate to the position of Supplemental Education Coordinator.

Minimum Education/Experience
The candidate must possess a Master's degree from an accredited institution/program in a relevant field. A minimum of three (3) years related public school teaching experience or public school professional administrative experience is required.

Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
NC Teaching License or eligibility for NC Teaching License is strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Provide students in Gateway 1 taking the Teacher Education Program Entry Exam (i.e. Praxis Core Reading, Writing and Math)
Teach an in-person and/or hybrid course (EDU 2010) each semester on Praxis Core preparation including math, reading and writing
Managing and record keeping on Blackboard
Manage student use of the Praxis Lab
Creating individual student success plans based on the needs of the student
Other tasks as assigned by the Dean's office and Title III Director

Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Maintain records, attendance logs, individual study success plans/prescriptions strategies/assistance on all participants and all documents pertaining to Supplemental Instruction
Complete monthly reports for Title III program requirements
Work in collaboration with Title III and other departments
Hire and manage a Graduate Assistant
Write the grant proposal annually
Manage Title III budget
Communicate with all stakeholders via email, etc. within a timely manner
Manage all data portals for the department
Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean's office and Title III Director


Function Information Technology

Manage the Praxis Lab
Provide students with password, instruction and support for Software Programs purchased through Title III funds and other web based resources
Manage and keep records through BB
