Join our team as a 3D Printing Production Manager! This is an onsite role located in Morrisville, NC.

The 3DP Production Manager plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing operations to achieve Protolabs operating objectives. This role is responsible for pre & post build operations within a specific technology group as part of Protolabs' additive manufacturing services. The position will ensure successful scheduling, set up, and building of customer orders through portions of the value stream, including scheduling and analysis, build prep, and schedule execution. The position will ensure successful completion of customer orders through portions of the value stream, including the build processing, final finishing, secondary operations, inspection and shipping. Scope also covers any supporting processes including material management and non-production equipment maintenance. This opening covers operations of the DMLS technology group and will work Monday - Friday.

You will:

  • Develop and execute sound policies, plans, and procedure including, but not limited to, the areas of staffing, capacity planning, resource scheduling, inventory planning, purchasing, manufacturing operations, cost standards, plant safety, equipment maintenance, and product quality
  • Assess capacity requirements from company plans. Implements staffing programs as required, setting high standards in recruiting, attracting and retaining staff. Manage the manufacturing staff through manufacturing supervisors
  • Responsible for managing labor efficiency in support of financial performance goals
  • Monitor workload and backlog; ensures manufacturing resources are applied properly to support delivery priorities. Monitors actual performance against scheduled performance and seeks to overcome any delays
  • Develop and implements manufacturing procedures consistent with company cost and quality goals
  • Develop and implements quality, safety, and training standards and procedures consistent with company goals. Improving product quality is a key aspect of the position
  • Responsible for aspects of the budgeting and planning for areas of ownership
  • Recommend capital equipment purchases to support post build operations and process improvement efforts.
  • Manage the planning and control of inventory levels within areas of ownership
  • Understand and support cost accounting and job costing activities
  • Work with financial and other company staff to improve the operating and forecasting tools used for business planning
  • Responsible for the effectiveness of Proto Excellence within the value stream
  • Establish programs and sets goals regarding measurement and improvements of operations for assigned areas. Areas include quality, timelines, and cost
  • Keep supervisors informed on all significant matters which he/she and members of his/her staff must know to effectively manage their areas of accountability
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned

Pre-Build:

  • Directs operations staff as well as supervisors. Coaches and develops supervisors and identifies other high potential employees, working to improve and reinforce performance development.
  • Works with product management and software development to enhance and extend capabilities to support Protolabs' value proposition.

Post Build:

  • Directs operations staff as well as supervisors. Coaches and develops supervisors and identifies other high potential employees, working to improve and reinforce performance development

What it takes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or an engineering discipline, or equivalent
  • 4 - 6 years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Significant people management experience
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment
  • Prior experience managing a team of 50+

Bonus points:

  • Prior experience with 3D Printing or Additive Manufacturing preferred

    Physical Demands:

    Office: While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

    Work Environment:

    Indoors Office: Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. However, there may be job duties that require the employee to spend time in the manufacturing areas exposed to machinery and noise; eye protection occasionally required.
