Job Description

Working independently, the Product Developer is responsible for optimizing resources and maximizing process efficiency by improving and creating new processes. implements continuous improvement, cost savings and optimization initiatives for Coffee and Tea. Supports commercialization, training, and certification programs and Works with multi-disciplinary groups to innovate, optimize and customize process, products, and food ingredients. This position reports to the R&D Director of Continuous Improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
Brand Maintenance
  • Turn ideas into action by planning and executing the project properly with specific timelines.
  • Improve existing processes by optimizing ingredients, product attributes, efficiencies, etc.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records related to continuous improvements initiatives such as project chapter, data collection, new procedures, and training tools, etc.
  • Participate in product development teams and cross-functional teams to be the Product Development advocate for internal initiatives, cost-optimization, and ops/QA support.
  • Execute product trials and sensory tests as needed, using internal software and statistical analysis to make recommendations for customers or drive development initiatives.
Project Request
  • Independently completes project requests as assigned on-time.
  • Provide application samples and usage recommendations, as needed.
  • Tracks action items, reporting progress and compiling project results to sustain the gains, identify red flags, and develop plans to overcome them.
  • Work cross functional to ensure functional expertise participation to have broad range of input.
Commercialization
  • Oversee production trials to support continuous improvement initiatives, documenting accordingly.
  • Troubleshoot trials and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Develop processing parameters with current equipment for better efficiency and yields.
Technical Support
  • Provide technical support to cross functional team seeking product information and advice as it pertains to process and product application/usage levels.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of field protocols and procedures that support products and solutions to Westrock cross functional team.
  • Conduct trend data analysis to provide comprehensive reports on complex data and summaries.
Raw and Packaging Material Assessment
  • Evaluate, approve, and analyze risk of new or existing ingredients.
  • Evaluate new raw and packaging materials and conduct sensory analysis with a cross-functional group.
  • Evaluate technical specification documentation for compliance with Westrock requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering or related field or relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of Product Development experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong understanding of food science principles
  • Adept Sensory skills and knowledge of sensory evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of SQF quality systems and related requirements.
  • Combination of strong analytical skills and creative thinking.
  • Must have excellent PC computer skills and ability to manage data electronically.
  • Must be willing to travel when needed
