Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position
The School of Nursing, within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, is seeking an Associate Professor/Director- Doctor of Nursing Practice program whose teaching and scholarly research agenda is focused on Nursing leadership or Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. The primary purpose of this role is to supervise the DNP program and provide student-centered teaching and clinical instruction of undergraduate and graduate-level courses. Faculty in this role will oversee the DNP program, provide student advising, student mentoring, recruitment, curriculum development, program assessment accreditation-related procedures, and DNP faculty research/scholarship mentoring. The ideal candidate will be expected to: (i) establish and sustain a strong externally-funded research program in their field of expertise; (ii) produce an excellent record of scholarly publications; (iii) incorporate modern pedagogical skills in teaching nursing courses to undergraduate and graduate courses; (iv) supervise and support DNP student projects; and (vi provide service to the SON, the college and university as well as to appropriate community and professional organizations. This is a 12-month, tenure/tenure-track position.

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (HCHHS) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, and Social Work, Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology and PhD in Social Work. Three additional doctoral programs being are being developed; Doctor of Nurse practice (DNP), PhD in Applied Psychology, and PhD in Sociology. The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic health science programming, enhance the training of healthcare practitioners, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.

Minimum Requirements
  • Applicants must hold a terminal degree in nursing or other related healthcare disciplines.
  • Applicants must be eligible to hold RN or ARNP unencumbered licenses in the related areas in North Carolina.
  • Experience in progressive academic leadership and exhibited strength in teaching in nursing.
  • A sustained research record in nursing science or closed-related health care fields with external research funding potential.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
  • Prior accreditation or reporting experience of the DNP program
  • Prior teaching experience in baccalaureate and/or graduate nursing programs or credentials to meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing's educational requirement is required.
  • Three years of experience in academic leadership
  • Three years of clinical experience related to the concepts and theories essential in providing nursing care.
  • Nurse Educator Certification
Required License or Certification
Must hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina or have eligibility to obtain a North Carolina Registered Nurse License if a candidate is an Advanced Practice Nurse, must hold national certification.
