Summary

This position is responsible for operating various production equipment and general material movement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work safely. Adhere to all company and regulatory EH&S policies and procedures. Look for safety issues and notify leadership of all safety concerns.
  • Follow all lockout procedures, safety rules, OSHA requirements.
  • Operate various equipment, including verifying equipment is running to standard and identifying and reporting when equipment is not running as expected.
  • Function as a member of a work team by contributing and initiating quality, safety and productivity ideas.
  • Train co-workers on manufacturing skills as required.
  • Communicate appropriately to avoid unplanned downtime, inform other shifts of problems, trends, etc. Inform the leader of maintenance needs.
  • Use computer system for work management, tracking production rates, recording quality information and request maintenance support.
  • Read and adhere to standard work instructions.
  • Perform routine operator maintenance on equipment (replace wear parts, verify alignment, general cleaning of equipment).
  • Provide input for ordering supplies and tooling.
  • Maintain good housekeeping - general cleaning, sweeping, emptying trash hoppers.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor / Area Manager / Team Lead.

Education and experience

Required:

  • High school graduate, GED or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Advanced education classes in math, science and/or other technical skills preferred.
  • Foundry or previous manufacturing work experience in a related occupation.

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to identify unusual sights and sounds associated with equipment and process.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with other co-workers at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to read written work instructions.
  • Must be able to operate a powered industrial truck
  • Must have the ability to use computers, other electronic devices and data system(s); (cell phone, tablet, ERP, CMMS, Intranet, etc.)
  • Work in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to use ruler, calipers and micrometer accurately.
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools (hand grinders, drills, air ratchet, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  • talk or hear
  • stand or walk consistently for 8+ hours
  • stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
  • wear respirator and other personal protective equipment required for the position.
  • operate a variety of machinery and equipment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required tooccasionally lift/move 50-75lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision and peripheral vision.

WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift.
  • Must be able to work overtime.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is routinely required to perform work in a foundry manufacturing setting, with exposure to high noise level, dust and fumes, and extreme heat and molten metal. Must be able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment required for the position.
