Job Description

Job Summary

This position pays $17.20 per hour with $4.41 Health and Welfare (H&W). Perform general grounds maintenance duties as assigned by the crew leader and supervisor. Follow all safety rules and procedures. Operate assigned equipment safely and in the manner that it was intended, avoiding damage to the surroundings, people, other property, and the equipment itself. Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections for assigned equipment.

Primary Duties

  • Operate weed eaters, edger, blowers, push mowers, or riding mowers as assigned.
  • Perform general grounds maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, mulching, pruning, hand weeding, planting, cleaning, and installing headstones.
  • Perform all work as instructed by the crew leader and supervisor. Perform quality, safe, and efficient work.
  • Ensure equipment is used only for work it was intended for to avoid damage to the equipment, the grounds, and other property. Ensure proper maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Notify crew leader and/or supervisor of any safety issues immediately.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work according to all safety rules as related to the equipment being used.
  • Ensure all safety rules and procedures are followed, (e.g. proper PPE worn, proper work methods used, and equipment safety devices are in place and operating).
  • Follow established break times, as well as beginning and end of scheduled work times.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.
  • Commercial grounds maintenance experience preferred.
  • Must be able to gain access to Ft. Bragg Army base.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words, as well as recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
