Primary Purpose of Position | The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, within the College of Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, invites applications and nominations for this tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position. The search is for candidates at the interface of data science/machine learning and industrial engineering, operations research, and management science, including optimization, statistical learning, computational social science, healthcare, logistics, and operations. We are specifically looking for candidates with strength in systems engineering, interface of data science/machine learning, and operations research, including optimization advanced statistical learning with applications of big data analytics, AI, and Machine Learning in modeling complex (infrastructure) systems, simulation, and risk and reliability analysis, healthcare, logistics, and operations. Skills and research interests in one or more of the following areas are desired: model-based systems engineering, optimization, statistical and probabilistic modeling, prognostic health management, big data integration (data fusion) of heterogenous data, data visualization and simulation, and big data in complex infrastructure systems. Experience in large scale optimization, model-based systems engineering, data analytics (including heterogeneous longitudinal and time-event data), artificial intelligence, and machine learning with applications in cyber-physical systems, large smart infrastructure systems (such as energy, logistics, urban transit, etc.), and military applications is highly preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) establish and sustain a strong externally-funded research program in Industrial and Systems Engineering; (ii) produce an excellent record of scholarly publication; (iii) incorporate modern pedagogical skills in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; (iv) supervise and support MS and PhD students; and (vi provide service to the university and its units, to the state, regional and national communities, as well as to the appropriate professional organizations. This is a 9 month position. |

Primary Function of Organizational Unit | North Carolina A&T State University is a public land grant university that enrolls 13,487 students.The College of Engineering, with 2,402 students, has EAC ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bioengineering, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program in Computer Science. At the Graduate level, the College has 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and 5 Doctoral programs. Additional information about the College and the University can be found at www.ncat.edu/coe. The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is responsible for implementing and assessing its nationally ranked and accredited programs in Industrial and Systems Engineering. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD programs. The ISE department has approximately 140 undergraduate students and 60+ graduate students (MS and PhD). The ISE program has 14 full-time faculty, 2 part-time faculty, and 3 staff members. Minimum Requirements | Earned doctorate in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely-related area. An ability to contribute to the systems engineering and/or data modeling and analysis of complex system efforts within the department. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education | One or more years of teaching and research experience, after earning the PhD. Ability to establish and sustain a strong research enterprise, and have pedagogical skills to teach in areas relevant to Industrial and Systems Engineering, and in a manner that facilitates intellectual development and success in engineering. Credentials or a degree in systems engineering.
