Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Educator is a Registered Nurse who provides clinical education to the SS nursing staff and surgical technologists. This role additionally serves as a member of the OR team for relief of nursing staff as needed, contributing to the overall care of the patient-before, during and after surgery. The Clinical Nurse Educator coordinates and implements SS educational programs, instructs classes, serves as a clinical nursing and surgical technologist instructor, and promotes training and ongoing development of SS staff.

Responsibilities:

OR surgical nurses, surgical technologists, and ancillary departmental personnel. Patients and families are served when providing direct patient care services. Additional UNC LENOIR Staff, students, and outside agencies, such as Lenoir Community College or other educational institutions to facilitate ongoing development of staff that provides and deliver surgical care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
  • Minimal of three to five years previous experience as an OR nurse, additional experience as surgical technologist desired. Teaching experience preferred.
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of NC. ACLS and CPR certification required. CNOR certified.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, good manual dexterity, ability to work as a team member, ability to interact professionally with staff and provide appropriate feedback. Verbal and written proficiency, presentation abilities and computer skills/clerical abilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Exposure to Blood-borne pathogens and infectious diseases requiring the use of personal protective equipment. Exposure to hazardous materials requiring the knowledge of chemical exposure procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
  • Must be able to engage in the following physical activities on a daily basis: Lengthy periods of standing, moving stretchers, carts and equipment. Assisting with the positioning of patients, frequent walking, bending, and reaching.
