Job Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of best-in-class service for ten or more landscape contracts at Fort Liberty. Accountable for project leadership and management, of managers, supervisors, crew members, and subcontractors. They will be leveraging strong technical expertise, implementing industry best practices with equipment, supplies and human capital to meet contract requirements. Accountable for planning and allocating resources, pricing, preparing budgets, monitoring, tracking, and reporting progress. Supports operations and business development in expanding the grounds Maintenance portfolio.

Primary Duties

  • Communicate with customers on a regular basis to keep them informed and advised, and to provide solutions and a completion timeline to issues that may arise. Arrange monthly meetings with Contracting Officers, Contracting Officer Technical Representatives, VP Operations, and Director of Operations to report key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Manage all of Fort Liberty Grounds landscape contracts effectively, to make sure they are in accordance with industry standards and cost.

  • Supervise and provide guidance to management staff and ground laborers in the most current, and cost-effective techniques for grounds landscaping.

  • Implement an effective quality control program (QASP) utilizing SS's QC program to ensure all work is completed to contract and industry standards. Send daily, weekly, and monthly reports detailing the results of our daily QA reporting to both internal and external personnel. Incorporate Lean/Six Sigma tools to analyze errors or failures to prevent future issues.

  • Perform personnel-related activities, such as hiring workers, evaluating staff performance, or taking disciplinary actions when performance problems occur.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop Quarterly PMR presentations with Contracting Officers, Contracting Officer Technical Representative, Executive Vice President Business Development, VP Contracting, VP of Operations, and Director of Operations.

  • Adept at training diverse teams to ensure all work is performed safely, correctly, on time and under budget to meet the customers' requirements.

  • Responsible for the review, creation, and adjustments for all budgets under all assigned cost centers. Will be collaborating directly with the Director of Pricing and Financial Analysis, Senior Regional Finance Manager, VP Operations, and the Director of Operations.

  • Develop and adjust daily schedules that assign employees to appropriate jobs and implement rehabilitation plans for assigned employees.

  • Ensure that timely and accurate records and reports necessary for the operation of ground

  • maintenance and contract requirements are submitted.

  • Will inspect assigned work to ensure that standards for work quality, established operating procedures, productivity, and safety practices are being satisfactorily maintained.

  • Research, purchase and maintain equipment, tools, and supplies to ensure that landscaping staff has the resources available to maximize their productivity.

  • Price contracts for renewal, expansion and new grounds opportunities SSI would like to quote on. Pricing is based upon industry standards for staffing, equipment, and schedules. Provides pricing directly to VP Contracting, Director of Pricing and Financial Analysis, VP of Operations, and Director of Operations. In addition, will provide the pricing for new grounds opportunities the company would like to quote on, to the same members above and the Executive Vice President Business Development and the Business Development team.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required. Bachelor's degree with courses in Botany or Horticulture preferred.

  • A minimum of 5 years' landscape leadership experience managing at least over five hundred acres large grounds Maintenance projects or other large service type contracts is preferred.

  • Must have, or can obtain, NC Landscaping and Pesticide Application certifications is required.

  • Per contract, valid NC driver's license, and good motor vehicle record (MVR) required.

  • Expertise with turf care practices including mowing, fertilizing, chemical spraying, irrigation, aeration, top dressing, tree/shrub care including planting, pruning, invasive management, hazard tree removal is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to collaborate well with people internally and externally at all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills - specifically Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and the ability to become familiar with corporate specific programs and software.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Availability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends, when needed.

  • Detail-oriented and able to conduct work with the highest levels of accuracy.
