Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the Department of Economics seek a forthcoming or recent PhD as a Postdoctoral Scholar to participate in an interdisciplinary NSF-funded project focused on environmental justice.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will have community facing tasks including but not limited to designing and conducting community oral history interviews in North Carolina, along with manuscript preparation, student supervision, as well as other duties as designated.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Economics is one of five academic departments in the College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University, located in Greensboro, NC. North Carolina A&T State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research institution committed to exemplary teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service.

The Department of Economics currently enrolls approximately 100 majors and offers three undergraduate B.S. degrees: an economics degree with an open (general) concentration, one with a concentration in business, and one with a concentration in law. The general economics degree includes ten electives, making it attractive to students who want to combine economics with specializations in other fields. The Economics-Business concentration is an AACSB-accredited program; the College has been accredited by AACSBInternational since 1979. The Department currently has 12 faculty, all of whom hold terminal degrees.

Minimum Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in cultural anthropology, cultural ethnography, community psychology, sociology, public policy, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work as a team player and across disciplines.


Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Formal training in methods of oral history.
  • Strong qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, archival work, qualitative data analyses).
  • Experience in grant management and having prior work experience in grant-funded projects.
  • Experience with Human Subjects research protocols.
  • Published at least two peer-reviewed articles or equivalent.
