Summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Lead Roadway Estimator to join our Southeast Region team in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Lead Roadway Estimator will be fully responsible for estimating all roadway-related items for design-build and bid-build heavy-civil estimates, typically ranging in value from $30M to $1B.

The candidate must have a minimum of 5-years of heavy-civil construction field experience and 2-years of heavy-civil estimating experience. The Lead Roadway Estimator will also be expected to provide mentoring, training, technical and administrative direction to entry-level and junior estimating staff personnel and ensure that Balfour Beatty's corporate objectives and code of conduct are always upheld.

Essential Functions

  • Review of contract bid documents (i.e. plans, specifications, permits, etc.)
  • Plan and coordinate estimating tasks
  • Perform/supervise quantity takeoffs and cost estimating
  • Participate in bid reviews
  • Identify and quantify risks
  • Obtain quotes from and coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Assist with formal "Request to Bid" internal paperwork.
  • Participate in presentations to region and corporate management
  • Provide technical assistance to field operations regarding contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Minimum Requirements

  • Local or willing to commute to Wilmington, NC
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 5-years of heavy-civil construction field experience and 2-years of heavy-civil estimating experience
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to use estimating software, quantity takeoff software, word processing, scheduling, spread sheets, bid management, online plan rooms, database applications and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft Office software (i.e., Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Preferred Experience/Talents

  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering/Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate with colleagues and manage subordinates
  • Strong team-based character, creativity, flexibility, and motivation to win
  • Experience with HCSS HeavyBid estimating software, Bluebeam quantity takeoff software, and AGTEK Gradeworks earthwork takeoff and modeling software

The base compensation range for the role of Lead Roadway Estimator in our Wilmington, NC office posted above is 90k to 130k per year depending on level of relevant experience.
