NCCU, a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System, is the nation's first state-supported liberal arts university for African Americans. Located in Durham, North Carolina, in the center of the Research Triangle Park, the University has an enrollment of nearly 7,500 students who earn degrees in a variety of bachelor's and master's programs. Currently the University offers one doctoral program in Integrated Biosciences. Doctoral programs in the Social Sciences are in the planning stages. The College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities houses eleven academic departments; History, Art and Design, Music, Language and Literature, Mass Communication, Theatre, Psychology, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Work, and Public Administration. |

Primary Purpose of Position | The person selected to fill this position will engage in interdisciplinary research and teaching, and serve as a resource for other researchers and students across varied disciplines regarding issues related to improving the social fabric of the citizens of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. As an active resource for the greater community, the Professorship will be committed to engaging community leaders and citizens on critical public issues, participation in research, public service projects for governmental agencies and community organizations, in addition to sharing the products of research and analysis with academic, professional and public audiences across the nation. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | The person should have a nationally recognized reputation as a scholar and or practitioner in areas directly related to Civic Education and Social Justice. |
Minimum Education/Experience | The successful candidate as a distinguished professor at the rank of full professor should hold a terminal degree in the Social Sciences, Humanities, or related fields. |
