Located in Winston Salem, UNCSA is a conservatory-style school and one of the 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina system. The university community consists of more than 1,200 students ranging from middle school to graduate school. The school of Design & Production is one of the five collegiate level training programs (along with Drama, Dance, Music and Film). The school has 367 students, 32 full time faculty and 12 adjuncts. The animatronics department is a graduate program with 2 faculty lines (inclusive of this position) with 8 students currently enrolled.
Position Summary
School of Design & Production, Animatronics Faculty
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach courses within the Animatronics Graduate Program in the School of Design and Production
  • Serve as an academic advisor and engage with curricular development
  • Mentor and advise students throughout the production process
  • Assist in the admissions process by interviewing students
  • Continued professional activity within the entertainment industry
  • Active participation in shared governance of the university community through service to the program, school, and institution
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Design & Production

Required Qualifications
  • Candidates are required to have a bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in the entertainment industry and/or academia.
  • Evidence of work that incorporates and supports diverse identities.
  • Experience or training in theatrical technology. Examples of this could include but are not limited to; entertainment machinery and control, theatrical drawing/drafting, puppetry and/or technical production and manufacturing.
  • Experience or training in production and/or project management for entertainment and/or demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Evidence of potential for a high quality of teaching.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master of Fine Arts degree or other terminal degree.
  • Experience in the classroom and/or mentoring and supporting the development of early career professionals.
  • Experience supervising students or personnel in a shop or production environment.

Tenure Information UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure.
