Located in Winston Salem, UNCSA is a conservatory-style school and one of the 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina system. The university community consists of more than 1,200 students ranging from middle school to graduate school. The school of Design & Production is one of the five collegiate level training programs (along with Drama, Dance, Music and Film). The school has 367 students, 32 full time faculty and 12 adjuncts. Sound Design is an undergraduate BFA and graduate MFA program, with 26 students currently enrolled, and one of 12 different concentrations offered by the School of Design & Production. In addition to a specialized classroom curriculum, students gain practical experience working as sound designers, composers, and sound engineers on productions in Drama, Dance, Music, and Film as well as campus and outside community events. |
Position Summary | Three full time faculty in the Sound Design program work closely with the students to ensure their educational progress, both in the classroom and the production environment, while also maintaining professional activities outside of the institution. |

Required Qualifications | A terminal degree or equivalent professional experience. A minimum of five years of recent experience working on sound and/or music in the entertainment industry. Evidence of work that incorporates and supports diverse identities. Evidence of potential for high quality mentorship. Evidence of potential for high quality teaching. |
Preferred Qualifications | Experience and skill in music composition. Experience teaching sound design, sound technology, and music composition. Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration. A terminal degree or equivalent professional experience. |
Tenure Information | UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure. |
