POSITION DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION
 
POSITION TITLE:  Manufacturing Assembler                              DATE:  February 2024

POSITION SUMMARYThe Assembler reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for the assembly of components according to the drawings and specifications in a timely manner to meet customer requirements; operates in compliance with company safety practices and performs other duties as assigned. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Fabricates, assembles, manufactures and installs equipment, used in research and development information on a large variety of aircraft
  2. Familiar with technical manuals, technical orders, manufacturing technical data, modification work orders and blue prints.
  3. Makes modifications to the existing airframe components to accommodate installations. Coordinates with project engineer personnel throughout the project, provides technical assistance to project engineers, contractors and factory representatives.
  4. Performs sheet metal manufacturing, modifications, and repairs to a variety of aircraft components.
  5. Possesses an in-depth knowledge of sheet metal materials and repair techniques. Uses tools and equipment associated with a sheet metal shop, such as but not limited to, Torque wrenches, M&M equipment, protractors, calipers, pitch gauges, crimping tools/machines, forming machine, lathes, milling machines, saws and drilling presses.
  6. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and rudimentary drawings.
  7. Perform the full range of manufacturing responsibilities, maintenance, repair, modifications, inspections and servicing of aircraft parts and components in accordance with approved methods, techniques and practices and certifies accomplished work. This entails the ability to: troubleshoot with use of and be able to understand technical manuals; use special test equipment and tools; research technical library.
  8. Must be able to Set-up and operate the full range of sheet metal tools found in a well-equipped shop. Work from engineering design drawings and technical specifications.
  9. Perform mathematical calculations involving use of plain and solid geometry and principles of measurement.
  10. Work with various thicknesses of aluminum, steel alloys, stainless steel, copper, brass and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Form Sheet metal into desired shapes with single and double hem seams, dovetail and lock seams, set-in bottom seams and rolled edges and flanges.
  11. Ability to makeup transition fittings (round to square, round to round). Knowledgeable in the approved methods and materials used in the aircraft painting and preservation. Duties include cleaning, sanding, masking, priming, painting and de-masking aircraft parts in preparation to installation on aircraft components, or to meet customer needs and expectations to application.
  12. Must be knowledgeable regarding aircraft structure, surface protection techniques and aircraft modification on a facility backstop activities capacity.
  13. Must be able to operate and maintain sanders, grinders, paint spray guns, etc.
  14. Must be able to perform preventive maintenance checks to equipment as assigned.
  15. Responsible to whom they are assigned by the supervisor or direct representative.
  16. Conducts activities with regards to the repair, alteration, manufacture and maintenance of the article to which they have been assigned.
  17. Must be able to complete work scope of assignments as assigned by lead, supervisor, management.  
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-5 years of prior Aviation Manufacturing/Assembly experience required and experience in machine, manufacture, assembly of aircraft parts and components, and sheet metal shop practices of which five (5) years shall be related to the manufacture, modification, fabrication and installation of parts. 
 
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
 
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 
 
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully an individual should have the ability to interact with and enter data into spreadsheet software.
 
Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to work effectively and contribute in a team environment and self-direct work.
 
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to sit; walk, talk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel occasionally. 
 
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed moving mechanical parts and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is very loud but falls within acceptable limits of OSHA guidelines.
