Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Department of Language and Literature at North Carolina Central University is to engage students in languages, cultures, literatures, linguistics, and writing. We foster students’ analytical and creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication strategies to prepare students for their responsibilities in civic and professional life.
Primary Purpose of Position
North Carolina Central University’s Department of Language and Literature invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer. Our department offers many of the university’s general education courses, such as Elementary Spanish I and II. We seek a versatile colleague with a record of teaching college level Spanish in face-to-face and online formats. The successful candidate will teach a 4/4 load, consisting of Elementary Spanish I and Elementary Spanish II. Teaching certification in the state of North Carolina is highly preferred. We especially encourage candidates with demonstrated ability to teach Elementary Spanish as well as mentor and recruit students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1 Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching in both face-to-face and online formats.
2. Evidence of demonstrated departmental service or potential to provide departmental and university service on curriculum and other committees.
3. Experience teaching Spanish at the university level.
Minimum Education/Experience
• M.A. in Spanish or Romance Language Required;
• Experience teaching Spanish at the college level;
• Ph.D. in Spanish preferred;



Preferred Additional Qualifications:
• Academic experience working with a diverse population;
• Teaching Certification in the state of North Carolina highly preferred.


Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Current State of North Carolina Teaching License highly recommended, but not required.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
• Teach four courses per semester, primarily in Elementary Spanish I and II.
• Teach mid-level (2000 level) courses, depending on the instructor’s areas of expertise.
• Engage in faculty development opportunities.

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Work with the School of Education and Spanish majors seeking licensure to develop the Spanish Education program.

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Schedule 10 hours of office hours per week to be available for students, including in-person, email, phone, and video-conferencing formats.
