Senior Substation Designer

Mott MacDonald is the consultant of choice for a wide range of power clients. We offer world-leading engineering services across the realm of power delivery including owner's engineering and detailed design. We're looking for a Senior Substation Designer to join our Substation Physical team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in substation physical design, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a project team environment.  You will provide electrical design drafting and design services in collaboration with experienced and knowledgeable team of engineers and designers. As a Senior Designer, you will be responsible for:

• Perform substation design tasks, CAD design, develop design drawings and documents, modeling and/or analysis, prepare material lists, perform field reviews, and other tasks for moderately complex to highly complex projects.
• Effective planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of work activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
• Ensuring drawings are produced in accordance with applicable drafting codes and standards.
• Reviewing and assessing field construction marks to develop As-Built Drawing Packages.
• Attend occasional project site visits to gather design details, as required.
• Oversee and mentor project team, specifically junior designers and drafters.
• Implement and perform quality assurance checks of client CAD standards, configurations, and procedures.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches for projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
• Realize the different stages of the project in the timeframes and budgets. Provide guidance for project schedules and allotted hours for project tasks.

Qualifications and experience:

• 7+ years’ experience utilizing AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Primtech to produce and edit design drawings.
• Substation design experience.           
• Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.  
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (particularly Word and Excel)                               
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.                                              
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to adhere to product quality while balancing time spent.
• Works well both in team environment and working individually on projects.

Salary Range: $95k - $115k.
