Position Summary
The Simulation and Laboratory Faculty participates in the operational aspects of the UNCG Simulation Center for Experiential Nursing Education (SCENE). This faculty member provides expertise and best practices in simulation integration, methods, and technologies, and supports the evidence-based educational experiences for learners in the School of Nursing. The Simulation and Laboratory faculty member works with course faculty to design, implement, and evaluate simulation and practice laboratory learning activities, consistent with the School of Nursing mission and strategic plan. The Simulation and Laboratory Faculty works with the SCENE Director and the simulation/laboratory team to ensure the implementation of best practices in practice labs and simulation education for both graduate and undergraduate students at the Main and Union Square Campus sites, both in Greensboro.

The Simulation and Laboratory faculty member works directly with the SCENE Director, is supervised by the SCENE Director and the Department Chair works collaboratively with program directors and course leaders, and has the following responsibilities:
  1. Serve as a simulation champion and expert consultant, assisting the School of Nursing faculty in developing and implementing best practices for practice labs and simulation experiences.
  2. Work collaboratively with the SCENE Director and Simulation Technology Specialist to monitor and manage equipment and supplies, including requisitions for procurement.
  3. Work collaboratively with the Simulation Team to ensure all simulation and lab equipment is operational and functional.
  4. Work with the SCENE Director and other appropriate persons for the scheduling of lab space and use of equipment and supplies.
  5. Provide faculty education and training in the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation scenarios and learning experiences.
  6. Work with program directors and course faculty to plan, execute, and evaluate practice labs and simulation activities.
  7. Assist in the oversight of the management of open practice lab hours for student practice (e.g., for clinical makeup time and remediation).
  8. Assist the Simulation and Laboratory Director in developing annual goals for simulation activities.
  9. Work with the SCENE Director to assess the impact and evaluate outcomes of practice lab and simulation activities.
  10. Assist the simulation and laboratory director to provide data for grant applications and reports.
  11. Work collaboratively with the Simulation and laboratory director to serve as a school liaison, networking and collaborating locally, regionally, and nationally to support best practices in simulation.
  12. Utilize and manage appropriate platforms (e.g., B-line) for all undergraduate and graduate program simulation activities and tracking.
  13. Participate in generating scholarships related to teaching and learning.
  14. May be required to teach courses such as nursing skills during the summer.
  15. Any other duties as may be assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing.
  • An unencumbered RN license in North Carolina is required prior to the employment date.
  • Experience in simulation and education in the clinical laboratory setting.
  • Willingness to seek Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator credential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of experience in simulation or clinical learning leadership in undergraduate and/or graduate programs.
  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.
  • Knowledge of best practices and innovation in simulation education.
