Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
In the Bryan School of Business & Economics, we create and disseminate knowledge about the theory and practice of business. In addition to our courses and research, we accomplish this through hands-on projects, global experiences, and outreach to the community. Position Summary
The Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNC Greensboro is seeking applicants for two (2) full-time Recruiting and Academic Advising Specialists.

These time limited, benefit-earning positions report to the Director of Online Programs in the Bryan School of Business and Economics. The primary areas of responsibility will be to recruit potential online students into the Bryan School including at both virtual and in person events, provide pre-admission advising to online students, and advise enrolled online campus students in the Bryan School.

Responsibilities include:
  • Participate in recruitment activities including responding to email and web-based inquiries quickly; presenting at virtual information sessions for prospective students; presenting, or otherwise working at on campus school and university transfer student events and events with community college partners; and engaging in post-event follow-up with prospective students from all types of events. These may include evening and weekend recruitment commitments.
  • Engage with prospective students to encourage and assist them through the application process.
  • Assist prospective undergraduate students with understanding what will transfer and what needs to be taken, major selection, how to apply for financial aid and scholarships, and other pre-enrollment issues to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Assist enrolled online undergraduate students with course selection and pathway planning, academic goal setting and development.
  • Assist with first-year and transfer new student orientations as well as participate in advising and registration sessions for returning and readmitted students each semester.
  • Utilize technology to communicate with students in the most effective ways.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution and a minimum of 2 years of experience contributing to student recruitment or student advising in a higher education setting.
  • Proven experience working with diverse populations in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days/evenings/weekends as needed.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Experience working with Online students and student recruitment
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Proficient computer skills – MS Office, Ellucian BANNER, Slate, and Canvas.

Undergraduate Recruiting
Essential Tasks
  • Contact and respond to prospective students to discuss programs and answer questions in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Develop recruitment events and information sessions.
  • Deliver presentations at designated events and information sessions.
  • Work directly with NC community colleges, employers, and others to develop a pipeline of prospective students.
  • Provide information assistance to prospective students to evaluate potential transfer credits and develop degree plans. Assist with major exploration, admissions process, and financial aid.
  • Work with database management tools, analytics tools, and reporting tools to develop and nurture leads.

  • Advise assigned load of business major advisees, which includes a minimum of 1 meeting each semester to discuss major, academic progress, and career goals.
  • Oversee assigned advisees’ progress degree completion.
  • Serve as a liaison to academic programs/departments/units as assigned.
  • Participate in orientation, registration, and advisement of new students entering the University.

Essential Tasks
  • Check in with advisees throughout the semester to assess progress and address any concerns.
  • Providing academic counseling to students flagged in Starfish, UNCG’s early warning system.
  • Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, and parents/families as appropriate (within the parameters of FERPA)
  • Refer students to appropriate campus and academic resources for additional support
