Job Description

Are you a technology generalist with an eye for what makes a great user experience? Want to help a leading liberal arts college elevate its academic tech tools to the next level?

Whether you're a recent CS or IT graduate, a seasoned systems administrator, a help desk worker looking to take that next step, or a self-taught scripter, Davidson T&I's Academic Technology team could be the right fit for you.

From Moodle, to virtual labs, to research computing, classroom audio/visual, and beyond - we're looking for someone who can weave in and out of the tools and systems that support teaching and learning at Davidson College, solving problems, responding to incidents, fulfilling requests, and taking notes as they go. Over time, we'd like this person to become the go-to authoritative expert in these systems: writing documentation, building training programs, and staying on top of changes as each system evolves - all while keeping the user experience of our faculty, staff, and students as their #1 priority. In Davidson T&I, we call this mentality "product ownership," and if we get the chance to interview you, we'll tell you all about it.

Who are you? Over the course of your career as an IT professional, you've acquired the skills, education, and experience required to master new applications quickly and easily. Over time you've developed an understanding of the ways in which applications communicate and integrate, application and data security principles, and basic database concepts. You've also developed a certain aptitude for eliciting and defining business requirements; that is to say, you understand the how and why behind the systems you support and the people who use them. Over the course of your career, you've developed strong troubleshooting skills, allowing you to quickly get to the root of the problem, no matter the platform. In doing so, you've grown used to working with both IT professionals and end users uncomfortable with technology.

In previous roles, you've demonstrated an ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. You've also proven yourself to be an empathetic and curious listener, which allows you to get to the root of things. Over the course of your career, you've continuously sought out ways to make things more efficient, and you can list a few examples of automations you developed or efficiencies you proposed that saved your employer or colleagues time, frustration, money, or effort. You take pride in ensuring applications and systems operate smoothly and use any errors as an opportunity to make improvements.

We don't expect you to have experience with all of our platforms, or possess all of the necessary skills on day 1. Rest assured that Davidson T&I is committed to investing the time and resources required to train and onboard product owners. Eventually, if selected for this role, you'll grow into the expert product owner we need you to be.

This is really important to our team, and we hope it's important to you as well.
