About the job

SAS is seeking an enthusiastic and motivational servant leader to manage an established team of life sciences-focused Strategic Advisors. You and your team will help our SAS life sciences sales teams achieve revenue targets by supporting them in planning for and having conversations with customers, assisting in the creation and implementation of sales enablement material, generating thought leadership assets, and shaping product through collaboration with life sciences product management.

To succeed in this role, you'll need to be a self-starter who exhibits a passion for problem-solving. Strong time management skills and the willingness to lead from within the trenches are required. You'll need to be able to not only guide the team to do so, but also yourself connect the dots for both our internal and external customers, always providing insight as to the "why" behind an idea. In addition, you should be ready to network across a variety of internal departments to help drive advancement in our life sciences market positioning and sales. Our goal is to solve complex problems with SAS software for our clients, advancing health globally.

As a Manager, Life Sciences Industry Consulting you will:

    Hires, develops and retains Life Science Strategic Advisors with the necessary skills to drive our business forward.
  • Directly manages day to day activities of staff and sales support activities.
  • Determines utilization of staff and resources to achieve sales goals.
  • Assigns areas of responsibility across team, including sales assignments or product specialty.
  • Responsible for consistent team-wide delivery of SAS technology and solution- messages to customers in sales engagements.
  • Provides overall leadership on initiatives and projects; coordinates with other business units & geographies to share best practices and approaches.
  • Ensures adherence to sales plans and strategies.
  • Assists and identifies key accounts, emerging technologies and initiative areas to determine strategies that maximize revenue.
  • Makes decisions for team in support of regional goals and objectives; referring to upper management on major issues.
  • Analyzes cost and effort of pre-sales support.
  • Supports and reinforces best practices, with heavy emphasis on sales methodologies and consistency across the team.
  • Works with sales management to fully qualify and manage the delivery of pre-sales Proof of Concept/Value engagements.
  • Creates with customer a business case on SAS technology & solutions and calculates value for the customer.
  • Identifies emerging issues and competitive advances / threats in the market that impact our sales strategies.
  • Identifies and develops strategic partnerships (e.g. technology, data, staffing, etc.) that help drive our sales mission further in life sciences.
  • Ensures pre-sales team participation in activities that provide a strong transition to post-sales process and customer adoption.
  • Administers all company policy and practices for employees in their organization.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Communicates corporate marketing strategies and procedures of assigned company software products or market segments to sales and technical sales support staff and third-party relationships.
  • May recommend changes in strategy where and when appropriate.
  • Work with Field Strategy and Support organization to assure accurate, consistent delivery of marketing message and product capability message.
  • Provides consistent, ongoing input to Field Strategy and Support organization based on experiences and feedback from field sales engagements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires eight (8) years of experience in the technical implementation of software systems and managing large projects and programming teams. Three (3) years of direct customer experience preferred. Two (2) years' experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively. Including setting goals, providing feedback and fostering professional growth.
  • Deep understanding of the life sciences industry including market trends, customer needs and competitor landscape.
  • Familiarity with sales processes and techniques, particularly in software sales, to provide guidance and support to the team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members and clients.
  • Capacity to identify challenges, devise solutions, and implement strategies to drive team performance and achieve revenue targets.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional support teams such as product management, channels, marketing and customer success to ensure alignment and success.
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, sales or a life science related field. An MBA or relevant advanced degree can be advantageous to this position.
  • Prior experience in a managerial role, preferably in a sales or customer-facing environment.
  • Participation in leadership development programs, workshops or certifications to enhance leadership skills and stay updated with industry best practices.
  • Strong network abilities to build relationships within the industry, forge partnerships, and identify business opportunities.
  • Established credibility within the life sciences industry, possible through prior roles, publications, or speaking engagements. Ideal candidate holds experience across most, if not all, of the life sciences value chain (research & discovery, clinical trial operations, manufacturing & supply chain, commercial & post-market management).
